“Priorities, Decision Making and Commitments in Medical Education”

A Leadership Discussion

 ABSTRACT
This discussion group session provides a reality check and examples of the current situation of the emerging health and medical education systems in the region with focus on the alternative solutions.  Attention focused in efforts to enhance not only the quality of medical education itself through traditional means like accreditation and outcomes assessment, but also explore the development of practical and innovative working models and tools for quality improvement Aim include discussing ongoing working models, competencies and attributes of physicians, mostly working in  primary care delivery services for the underserved.
Decision making is the mental process resulting in the selection of a course of action among several alternatives. Every decision making process produces a final choice in an action or an opinion of choice. If a person neither takes an action nor gives an opinion, this is also decision. There is a need to make exceptional decisions in order to translate quality medical education into significant improvement of health care outcomes.
Session framework in each case or area is to address decision making discussion towards: Evolution, realities and needs: Overview and focus and Lessons learned, failures and successful actions. Feasible alternatives and strategic alliances to improve quality: National, Regional and Global. Opportunities, impact and a way forward.
